Nevada Sulfur

Rough Sulfur Mineral Specimens - Nevada

Rough Sulfur Mineral Specimens from Central Nevada: Some are bound in unique forms to dolomitic calcite matrix. Sulfur has been used historically and today for pain relief, food preservation, and pH balancing in soils. It is most famous for its role in fireworks, gunpowder, and explosives. In its raw form, sulfur can be lit on fire and melts like wax — a blue flame transforms it into liquid. When cooled, it re-crystallizes with a distinctive acrid smell. Avoid inhaling fumes.

Sulfur bonds with calcium to form gypsum crystals (selenite), with iron to form pyrite, and with copper to form blue copper sulfate crystals.
