Stone Profile – Amethyst (Nevada)

Color Story: Deep violet fading to soft gray-lavender, like dusk over desert stone.

Origin: Discovered in volcanic rhyolite pockets throughout Nevada’s high desert.

Formation: Quartz crystals grown in ancient lava flows; iron and natural radiation create their purple tone.

Texture: Smooth crystal faces that glow smoky in shadow and bright lilac in sunlight.

Hardness: 7 on the Mohs scale — durable enough to withstand daily wear.

Collected: Hand-dug from loose rhyolite and rinsed clean in water to keep its natural sheen intact.

These crystals formed in hollow pockets of rhyolite flows throughout Nevada’s desert ranges. The dry environment preserved their clarity, while traces of iron gave each piece its balanced, dusky color. Each specimen was cleaned, graded, and left unheated to keep its natural tone.
